Staff of Defense

A staff of defense (staff, rare, requires attunement by a sorcerer, warlock, or wizard)

This oaken staff weighs 3 pounds. You must be attuned to the staff to gain its benefits and cast its spells.

The staff of defense can be wielded as a quarterstaff and counts as a magical weapon. While holding the staff, you have a + 1 bonus to your Armor Class.

The staff has 10 charges, which are used to fuel the spells within it. With the staff in hand, you can use your action to cast mage armor (1 charge) or your reaction to cast shield (2 charges). No components are required.

The staff regains 1d6 + 4 expended charges each day at dawn. If you expend the staff’s last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the staff shatters and is destroyed.

This oaken staff is shaped by elven magic, not carved. A golden acorn rests within the spiraling curls at the top of the weapon. As an action, the wielder can concentrate on the acorn to learn the exact direction to a certain location within the High Forest, the place where the Grandfather Tree once stood. History claims the ancient treant was summoned by the Elves of Aryvandaar to protect the Mist Hall, though neither still exists. While holding the item, the bearer feels confident and assured of his or her own safety. (Elf, Ornament, Compass, Confident)
